Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing Quotes
Syracuse Men’s Basketball
Syracuse vs. Georgetown

Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing
How much do you think you guys (in the beginning of the second half) lost a little poise compared to the first half?
“You knew they (Syracuse) were going to come out with a better effort than they did in the first half. I thought that we got back on our heels a little bit, but on the road with 10 seconds to go, that turnover in the end hurt us. Of all the turnovers that we had, that one hurt us. But my guys played hard, we were right there with a chance to win, and Battle hit a tough shot. He played a great game for them.”
What was your decision to play zone at the eight- or nine-minute mark to put Syracuse on its heels?
“They were scoring at will in the second half, so we tried to mix it up a little. They were hot, so we tried to put them back. It worked, but the turnover at the end is what hurt us the most – our last two turnovers, especially the last one.”
Can you talk about Tyus Battle and his second half as a big player who came up in a big opportunity?
“He played well and knocked down big shots for them. He’s a very good player. He hurt us last year and he hurt us this year. He’s a very good player.”
Can you tell us what it felt like coming back as a coach in the Dome as opposed to a player? After the
atmosphere today, and the way this game was played, do you feel even more strongly about keeping this series alive?
“I don’t even remember back then (laughing). But it was great, the atmosphere was great. The crowd was into the game and the players were into the game.
“This is something that I would love to continue. I think this is great for both teams. I think it is great for us to play against Syracuse, and I think it is great for them to play against us. I would love to see it continue.”
