Opening Statement:
“Congratulations to Syracuse and their kids. I thought they outplayed us in the second half. I thought the offensive rebounding was a significant factor in the game. Kids on both teams played really hard. It was hard to score out there. Their zone was, obviously, very good today. I thought our man-to-man was good. They just made a couple more plays down the stretch. The offensive rebounds helped them get a couple, they got some free throws in the second half that I think might have been the determining factor in the win.”
What was Paschal Chukwu’s influence on the game?
“He is a good player. One of the (players), and we have some guys too, who just stay in their lane. We have enough good players. They have three guys who are extremely talented scorers so they don’t need a lot out of the other two. They need those guys to do their jobs and both those kids are very good zone defenders. Obviously his shot blocking and the two he blocked with six minutes left in the game were huge plays, not only to stop the basket but to create energy in the building. He has a presence down there and certainly their zone this year has been better because of his play.”
Can you talk about Oshae Brissett’s play?
“He is an extremely talented big kid. He has a power forward body and he plays like a wing. He can get to different places on the court, make a three, he is physically strong and really moves well for a guy that size. Certainly he causes some problems at times in the game, as well. Good player.”
Can you talk about the play of Marcquise Reed and Elijah Thomas in the second half?
“We wanted to get the ball to those guys on some actions. I thought we did a good job. Marcquise jumped up and made a couple of tough shots. Gabe (Devoe) just couldn’t quite find the rhythm and Shelton (Mitchell) – I don’t think Shelton was aggressive enough. I was a little disappointed in that. I thought he would have taken over some situations and tried to make a few more plays. I have to watch the film and see if they were there. I thought a couple of times he was driving to pass and you can over-pass against this zone. That’s one thing I have learned playing against it. Because of their length and athleticism and their ability to close, you have to make one or two good plays and then make a play.”
