A standout football player and 2008 Syracuse graduate, Joe Fields became a member of the athletics department in January 2010 as an academic graduate assistant. He was promoted to academic coordinator in July 2011 and was elevated to associate director of student-athlete academic development and later director of academics for student-athlete development before departing Syracuse in October 2017.
  Â
Fields returned to his alma mater after playing professional football with the Carolina Panthers in 2008. He was the only undrafted free agent to remain with the team for the season.Â
  Â
Fields served as the director of the Syracuse Youth Impact Program in July 2011, developing a curriculum for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade boys from the Syracuse City School District. The program included classroom work in math, language and writing each morning followed by life-skills sessions, a football chalk talk and a full-contact practice.
  Â
A four-year SU football letterwinner, Fields enrolled as an undergraduate at Syracuse in January 2004 and played quarterback and free safety for the Orange. He was selected to play in the 2008 Hula Bowl and received ECAC All-Star and All-BIG EAST Second Team honors as a senior.Â
  Â
Fields earned his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse in physical education. He also holds a master’s degree in instructional design, development and evaluation from SU.   Â
