Syracuse alum Jack Potenza is in his third season as a defensive graduate assistant.Â
In 2021, Syracuse held opponents to 330 yards per game, which ranked 19th nationally and second in the ACC. Orange stars Mikel Jones (LB) and Cody Roscoe (DE) earned First Team All-ACC honors, while Garrett Williams, Duce Chestnut and Josh Black were also honored by the league. Syracuse made a habit of getting after the quarterback, ranking third in the ACC in sacks (3.1) and 16th in the FBS.
A native of Fairfield, Connecticut, Potenza was a two-sport athlete in football (quarterback) and lacrosse (midfielder) at St. Lawrence University before transferring to Syracuse.Â
Potenza previously served as a recruiting office assistant and student coach for the Orange as an undergraduate. Upon arriving in Central New York, Potenza spent the 2018 season assisting Director of Recruiting Operations Kramer Cook with prospect summaries and analysis. In 2019, he was assigned to defensive line coach Vinson Reynolds and assisted in the planning of defensive individual and scout team practice periods. He also created film breakdowns and tendency reports of opposing offensive linemen for the Orange front four.
In addition to his work at Syracuse, Potenza also has experience at the professional level. In 2018 and 2019, he spent the summer as a Washington Redskins training camp intern.Â
Potenza holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Syracuse. He is enrolled in the instructional design, development and evaluation graduate program.
