Flood joins the Orange after spending the past seven seasons at Iowa, where he worked in numerous roles.
Most recently, Flood coached defensive backs (2021-22) and linebackers (2020) in his graduate assistant tenure. The Hawkeyes led the nation in interceptions over Flood’s two seasons with the defensive backs (40), including a program record and NCAA best 25 in 2021 during the team’s march to the Big Ten title game and Big Ten West Division championship.
The Hawkeyes were near the top of the nation of numerous defensive categories in his time, including defensive touchdowns (1st – 2022; 7th – 2021), passing defense (6th – 2022), pass efficiency defense (6th - 2021), turnover margin (11th - 2021), rushing defense (13th - 2021), scoring defense (2nd – 2022; 13th - 2021), and total defense (2nd – 2022; 18th - 2021).
Flood focused on linebackers in 2020, where Iowa led the nation in allowing just 4.3 yards per play and ranked among the national leaders in several additional categories, including scoring (16.0, 7th), pass efficiency defense (110.1, 9th), rushing defense (107.6, 11th), total defense (313.8, 12th), red zone defense (.727, 12th), and interceptions (11, 19th).
He spent the 2018-19 seasons as a special teams assistant, when Iowa’s special teams were led by kicker Keith Duncan and kickoff return specialist and wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. Duncan earned consensus first-team All-America honors and was one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award, leading the nation with 29 field goals (34 attempts), a total that ranks sixth-best in NCAA history. Smith-Marsette led the Big Ten and ranked second in the nation with two kickoff return touchdowns.
As an undergrad, Flood was a student manager, working with the offensive line. He graduated in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in both enterprise leadership and sports business practices.
