Associate athletic trainer Karen McKinney is responsible for all injury prevention and treatment for Syracuse women’s basketball student-athletes.

McKinney is in her 19th season at Syracuse. She was promoted to the position of associate athletic trainer in 2005. McKinney served as a graduate assistant trainer from 1993-95 before being elevated to assistant athletic trainer, a position she held from 1995-96 and again from 1997 until her current appointment.

A 1993 graduate of the University of Iowa, McKinney earned her master’s degree in exercise science from Syracuse in 1995. McKinney was an athletic trainer at HealthSouth Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic in Syracuse from 1996-97.

McKinney has worked numerous camps during the past several years. She is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Eastern Athletic Trainers Association, New York State Athletic Trainers Association, and National Academy of Sports Medicine Corrective Exercise Specialists. McKinney is certified in active release techniques (ART) for lower body and spine, sound assisted soft tissue mobilization (SASTM), and American Heart Association first aid/CPR/AED instruction.
