Former University of Louisville volleyball standout Lana Dukule joined the Orange volleyball staff as an assistant coach from July 2013 to June 2015.
SU head volleyball coach Leonid Yelin announced her hiring on July 30, 2013 and she coached for two seasons with the Orange.
“This will be a smooth transition for everyone,” said Yelin. “For me, she’s replacing a former teammate, so I don’t have to make any adjustments since she played for me. She brings in experience, not just as a collegiate player, but she also played professionally overseas. A lot of players have a dream to play after college, and she will be a good example of you can do it too. She is a great role model.”
A four-year letterwinner for Yelin when he coached the Cardinals, Dukule was a member of Louisville’s NCAA Tournament teams from 2004 to 2006, which included consecutive Sweet 16 appearances in her first two years and Conference USA All-Freshman First Team recognition.
Dukule enjoyed a phenomenal senior campaign, garnering All-BIG EAST First Team and All-BIG EAST Tournament honors. She ranked first on the team with a .342 hitting percentage and 36 solo blocks, second with 350 kills and third with 102 total blocks. That season, Louisville led the country in blocks per game at 3.94.
“Coach Yelin is a great mentor,” said Dukule. “I played for him at Louisville and I always dreamed of working with him. I am very excited and can’t wait to start.”
Upon receiving her B.S. in business administration and finance, Dukule began her career as a professional volleyball player with the Volta Mantovana Volleyball Club in Italy. She spent the next two years in France playing one season each for the EVB Volleyball Club and IOPV Volleyball Club.
During the summer of 2012, Dukule was a non-playing member of the Latvian National Team at the Latvian Olympics.
