A member of the U.S. U-19 Women's National Indoor Team and the U-19 National Club Field Hockey Champion WC Eagles, Claire Webb is set to join the 2016 Orange looking to continue her success on the field.
Webb has earned multiple National Club Championships, doing so at both the U16 and U19 level, while also leading her high school team to record levels of success.
"I would like to welcome Claire to our Syracuse family," said head coach Ange Bradley. "She is an outstanding scholar athlete and we will look for her to compete for a starting position in the back five this fall. As a member of the USA Indoor National team Claire has outstanding technical skill, vision and defensive awareness. She is a tactically astute player and possesses a tremendous work ethic. I am excited to begin coaching Claire.
Webb has a long list of accomplishments prior to joining the Orange. She was a Philafieldhockey Senior All-Star Game selection this past season, two-time All-Chestmont League First Team honoree, Three-time Daily Local News All-Area selection and a 2015 HarrowSports/NFHCA All-Region Second Team selection, while playing up in the midfield and leading her high school team in scoring. She attended Downingtown Stem Academy, however played her high school hockey for Downingtown East High School.
While there, she was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Steph Bullock, leading the Cougars to its furthest advancement in the Pennsylvania State Playoffs in program history. They reached the Pennsylvania Semifinals and finished second in District I during her senior year, where Webb paced the team with 31 points on five goals and 21 assists.
Â
In her high school career, she posted 34 goals and 72 assists.
Â
"Claire was a four-year varsity starter," Bullock said. "She's a smart player with great field vision and strong stick skills. Clair was our play starter and key contributor to the team's success. She had a strong presence on the field that will be hard to replace."
Webb's success carried over to the club level as well, helping the WC Eagles to national success under head coach Jun Kentwell.
The Eagles won the U19 National Club Championship in each of the last-two seasons with Webb on the roster, while she claimed the U16 title as well the year prior.
"Claire has been the core of our defense and the stabilizing factor in our four National Club Championship titles," Kentwell said. "She reads the game extremely well and is therefore able to play defense or defensive midfield with poise and consistency. Very detail oriented, Claire is a fine passer of the ball."
In addition to her field hockey success, Webb also played lacrosse in high school, while being involved in the Key Club, volunteering for the Special Olympics, Cam-a-thon and New Student Induction Club.
She chose Syracuse because of its fit both academically and athletically, crediting her immediate connection with the players and coaching staff with a decision for coming to play for the Orange.
