A number of first-year swimmers turned in outstanding performances, in particular freshman Elyse McDonough (Delmar, NY) who paced the Orangewomen by winning three events. She took first place in the 200 individual medley (2:10.27), won the 100 freestyle (53.78) and was part of the 400 medley relay team that finished first with a time of 3:56.69.
Other multiple-event winners on the women's side were seniors Eleanor Thoet (Bath, ME), sophomore Jennifer Jonusaitis (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) and freshman Megan Daney (Newtown, PA). Senior diver Sara Mastropole (Milford, CT) also provided a lift by winning both the three and one-meter dives.
Senior Dustin Riley (Carson City, NV), who competed in this past summer's U.S. Olympic Trials, showed his versatility against St. Bonaventure by capturing victories in the 200 individual medley (1:57.22), the 200 butterfly (1:54.66) and the 200 breaststroke (2:09.15).
Freshman Ari Limor (Givataym, Israel) swam to a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:45.43) and contributed to the team's victory in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.00). Junior James Loveless (Crestwood, NY) won the distance freestyle events. He clocked a 9:59.85 in the 1,000 free and a 4:49.20 in the 500 freestyle.
Syracuse returns to action on Oct. 21, when it hosts Seton Hall at Webster Pool. The diving portion of the meet will begin at 9 a.m., while the swimming portion is scheduled to begin at noon.
