SYRACUSE, NY -- Sophomore diver Julie Van Deusen (Bear, DE/The
Hill
School) won both the one- and three-meter diving events in a
two-day
dual meet at Massachusetts, Dec. 1-2. In the process, she set two
school records with her scores of 428.03 on the one-meter board
(10
dives) and 507.00 on the three-meter board (10 dives). Van
Deusen's
point total for her performance on the one-meter is the most since
Shannon Jerome totalled 421.90 points in 1991. She is the first
Orangewoman diver to tally more than 500 points on the three-meter
board.
Senior Adam Earle (Camillus, NY/West Genessee) won first-place points for Syracuse on the one-meter board at Massachusetts. He left his mark in the SU record books by setting a new school standard with his score of 485.18. The old record for the 11-dive one-meter event was 417.05 and was achieved by Dave Rucker in 1991.
The Syracuse women (3-1) defeated the Massachusetts Minutewomen, 240-130, on Dec. 1-2. The Orangemen (2-2) lost a 239-127 decision to the Minutemen.
The team will take a brief hiatus from competition and will hold a training session in the Cayman Islands on Jan. 2-9. The next dual meet for the swimming and diving team is Jan. 20, at West Virginia.
