Orangemen Soccer Falls To No. 8 St. John's, 2-0

SYRACUSE, NY (Sept. 13) - The Syracuse men's soccer team's two-game winning streak came to an end Sept. 13 with a 2-0 loss to the eighth-ranked St. John's Red Storm at the Soccer Stadium at the Lampe Athletics Complex. Syracuse drops to 2-2 (1-1 BIG EAST), while St. John's improves to 4-1 (2-1 BIG EAST).
Junior Shalrie Joseph put St. John's up for good with a goal in the 43rd minute of play. Joseph beat the Syracuse defense with a header off a cross from Marlon Rojas. Joseph leads the Red Storm with four goals on the season.
St. John's put up its second score in the 62 nd minute when Omar Chavez headed a ball in off an indirect kick. Christopher Wingert was credited with the assist.
Senior goalkeeper Kevin Bacher (East Meadow, NY) made a season-high seven saves on the evening, including several spectacular diving stops. St. John's goalkeeper Bill Gaudette stopped two Syracuse shots.
The Red Storm outshot Syracuse, 16-8, holding the Orangemen scoreless for the first time this season.
The Orangemen wrap up their four-game homestand on Saturday when the Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit the Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
