Syracuse Swimmers face Connecticut on Saturday

ORANGEWOMEN DEFEAT WEST VIRGINIA IN FIRST DUAL MEET SINCE DEC. 1-2
The swimming and diving team returned to competitive action for the first time since December 2, when they traveled to Morgantown, WV on January 20. The Orangewomen picked up where they left off, defeating the Mountaineers, 153-134, and improving their record to 4-1.
MOUNTAINEERS HAND ORANGEMEN A 164.5 - 115.5 LOSS
The SU men's team is now 2-3 on the season after a 164.5 - 115.5 loss to West Virginia on January 20. It was the first time in the series that the Orangemen ever lost to the Mountaineers.
TUDRYN PACES WOMEN
Freshman Annie Tudryn won three events against WVU, including the 100 breaststroke (1:06.64), the 200 breaststroke (2:22.39) and the 400 individual medley (4:34.88).
DANEY DOMINATES BACKSTROKE EVENTS
Freshman Megan Daney turned in a strong performance against West Virginia. She captured first place in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. She swam the 100 back in a time of 59.05 and the 200 back in a time of 2:05.36.
BRYON POSTS SEASON-BEST TIME IN THE 1,000 FREESTYLE
Junior Kelly Bryon won two distance events at West Virginia. She recorded a season-best time of 10:27.00 in the 1,000 freestyle and a time of 5:07.57 in the 500 freestyle.
FILIPOVIC HEATING UP
Junior Djordje Filipovic came back from the break to register two first-place finishes at West Virginia. He also swam the third leg of the top-finishing 400 medley relay team. Filipovic swam the 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 50.98 and touched first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.92.
FILIPOVIC NAMED ECAC/DIVISION I SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Junior Djordje Filipovic was named the ECAC/Division I Swimmer of the Week for his performance at West Virginia last Saturday.
DIVERS COMPETE AGAINST THEMSELVES
There were no female West Virginia divers for SU's Sara Mastropole and Julie Van Deusen to compete against. Mastropole got credit for first place in the one-meter dive with a season-best score of 285.07, while Van Deusen claimed the three-meter event with a season-best score of 321.37.
400 MeDLEY RELAY TEAM WINS AGAINST MOUNTAINEERS
The Orangemen's 400 medley relay team consisting of Filipovic, senior Josko Vucetic, senior Ilia Mikhailov and sophomore newcomer Benjamin Henri combined for a winning time of 3:27.79.
VUCETIC VIRTUALLY UNBEATABLE IN THE BACKSTROKE
Vucetic maintained his dominance in the backstroke events versus West Virginia, winning both the 100 and 200 events. His time in the 100 backstroke was 51.65, while he recorded a time of 1:53.38 in the 200 back.
MIKHAILOV FINISHES IN DEAD HEAT
Mikhailov tied for first in the 100 breaststroke with WVU's Josh Evans. Both swimmers finished simultaneously in 58.51.
BIZEWSKI RECORDS PERSONAL-BEST TIME
Junior Glenn Bizewski won the 400 individual medley against the Mountaineers in a personal-best time of 4:07.69.
EARLE NURSING INJURIES
SU was without the services of its lone male diver, senior Adam Earle against West Virginia. Earle is rehabilitating injuries to his back and eardrum.
SYRACUSE SALUTES ITS 10 SENIORS
Maureen Dugan
A member of SU's Athletic Director's Honor Roll...a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2000...swam with the 400 medley relay team that won a bronze medal at the 1998 BIG EAST Championship.
Adam Earle
Set a school record this season against Massachusetts in the one-meter (11 dives) with a score of 485.18...was a BIG EAST point-scorer last year, finishing 13th on the one-meter and 14th on the three-meter.
Dave Hanthorn
All-BIG EAST as a member of the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay at last year's BIG EAST Championship...owns the team's fourth-best time in the 200 free this season (1:45.48).
Sara Mastropole
Named to the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team in 2000...two-time Academic All-District...15th on the one-meter board at last year's conference meet...16th on the three-meter.
Ilia Mikhailov
Named to the 2000 GTE/CoSIDA District I Academic Team...earned five BIG EAST medals as a sophomore...part of the school-record 200 medley relay team and the 400 medley relay team.
Mindy Morse
Had the team's fastest time in the 200 IM her sophomore year...All-BIG EAST in the 200 back her freshman year...finished fourth in the 400 IM at the BIG EAST Championship her freshman year.
Tara Nelson
Two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star...member of SU's Athletic Director's Honor Roll...owns the team's sixth-best time this season in the 100 butterfly (1:00.78) which she set at the Nike Cup.
Dustin Riley
Has scored points for SU at the BIG EAST meet during his first three years...won a silver medal in the 400 IM at the 2000 BIG EAST Championship...BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Eleanor Thoet
Owns the team's top times this season in the 50 free (23.88), the 100 free (52.08) and the 200 free (1:55.17)...part of the school-record 200 free relay and the 400 free relay teams...BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
Josko Vucetic
School record-holder in the 100 backstroke (49.07)...two-time BIG EAST champion in the 100 back...captured first place in the 200 back at last year's conference meet...owns the SU pool record in the 100 back (50.61).
