"I think we have one of the strongest schedules in the country," said head coach Lisa Miller. "We play three of the top teams in the nation -- Maryland, Georgetown and Virginia. From the north, we play Boston University, Dartmouth, a stronger Connecticut team and Massachusetts, the Atlantic 10 champion last year."
The BIG EAST Conference is sponsoring womens lacrosse for the first time this year. Member institutions for the inaugural campaign include Syracuse, Boston College, Connecticut, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Virginia Tech.
"Its pretty exciting to be playing a BIG EAST schedule," said Miller. "It promises to be one of the most competitive conferences in the country."
After the Duke scrimmage, the Orangewomen officially open their season Saturday, March 3 at home against Virginia. They then travel south to face defending national-champion Maryland on Saturday, March 10.
Syracuses highly-anticipated rematch with Georgetown, the team that defeated the Orangewomen in the first round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament, 11-10, will take place on Saturday, March 17 in Washington, D.C.
