
Pittsburgh Defeats Syracuse Swimming & Diving

In a BIG EAST dual-meet, the Pittsburgh men defeated Syracuse, 196-45, while the Panther women were victorious, 148-91. They were the first losses of the season for the Orangemen and Orangewomen, who are both now 2-1 on the year.
Freshman Lisa Fong (Olympia, Wash./Olympia) captured first place in the 200 freestyle (1:56.20) for Syracuse.
The Orangewomen dominated the 200 butterfly, led by sophomore Elyse McDonough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) who won the event in a time of 2:06.70. In second place was freshman Elisa James (Lakewood, Wash./Lakes) with a time of 2:09.37. Junior Jennifer Jonusaitis (Sault St. Marie, Ontario, Canada/Mt. St. Joseph College) was third with a time of 2:12.65. Senior Stacy Wells (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) placed fourth with a time of 2:13.07.
Senior Kelly Bryon (Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada/) won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:06.49. Sophomores Annie Tudryn (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) and Kalei Mahi (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame) finished 1-2 in the 200 breaststroke, Tudryn in a time of 2:22.28 and Mahi in a time of 2:23.18.
Freshman Mike Anstrom (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) was the only Orangeman to place better than third in an individual event. The rookie captured second place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.04. The 400 freestyle relay made up of Anstrom, sophomore Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany/Singapore American School) and freshmen Gustavo Kertzscher (Skurup, Sweden/Österportskolan) and Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif./Clayton Valley) finished second with a time of 3:11.12.
The Syracuse swimming and diving team returns home on Saturday, Nov. 3 to face Florida Atlantic. Diving will begin at 9 a.m., while swimming starts at 12 p.m.
