
McBride Scores 28 in Win at Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif – Sophomore point guard Julie McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) scored a career-high 28 points, including 23 in the second half, to lead the Syracuse women's basketball team to a 75-58 win at Pepperdine on Wednesday, Nov. 21. The victory was head coach Marianna Freeman's 100th of her career.
The Orangewomen are now 3-0 after their California road trip. The Waves are now 0-2.
Syracuse trailed, 31-29, at the half, but outscored the Waves, 46-27, in the second stanza. The Orangewomen opened the second half with a 23-5 run to open up a 16-point advantage. Pepperdine cut the deficit to eight points, but SU immediately responded with a 10-2 run to open the game back up.
The Orangewomen clinched the game at the free throw line, scoring their last 10 points from the charity stripe. McBride hit eight consecutive free throws during that stretch.
McBride finished the game 13-of-14 from the foul line. She also dished out a season-best seven assists and made four steals. Sophomore center Chineze Nwagbo (Lanham-Seabrook, Md./Duval) scored a career-best 17 points and had her first career double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds. It is the third consecutive game that Syracuse has had a player record a double-double.
Senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) scored a season-best 18 points, including four three-pointers. She also added four steals. As a team, the Orangewomen made 14 steals andheld the Waves to 30 percent shooting from the floor.
Tamara McDonald led the Waves with 20 points. Keani Christianson added 12 for Pepperdine.
Syracuse returns home for its Manley Field House debut on Sunday, Nov. 25 versus 18th-ranked Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
