
Orangewomen Softball Signs Three Players for 2002-03

Switenko is a shortstop and pitcher from Blue Anchor, N.J. The Edgewood Regional High School product is a two-time all-conference performer and was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Freshman of the Year in 1999. She was also an All-South Jersey selection by the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2000. Switenko has played on five state champion club teams and in 1998 she was named to the All-Tournament team at the ASA nationals. Switenko also has experience in several championship situations. She has pitched in eight tournament finals, two state championship finals and one national semifinal. Switenko also plays tennis and basketball at Edgewood Regional.
Morales is one of two California players in the signing class. An outfielder and deisgnated player from Whittier, Calif., Morales played for St. Paul High School and the California USA Athletics club team. She is an All-Del Ray League performer and was also an all-area selection. In additon to her softball talents, Morales also plays soccer and was the Most Valuable Player of St. Paul's volleyball squad.
Orpitelli is also from California, hailing from Garden Grove. The first baseman/outfielder is an all-conference player at Pacifica High School. She is also a teammate of Morales on the California USA Athletics club team. Orpitelli was named one of the top 50 hitters in Orange County by the Los Angeles Times in 2000 and was Pacifica's Offensive MVP. She is also a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar Athlete.
Syracuse went 19-28 overall and 6-14 in its first season of competition in the BIG EAST. The Orangewomen return six starters, including second-team all-conference centerfielder Christina Holowich this season. The 2002 campaign gets underway on February 15 versus Florida State at the Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla.
