COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Syracuse softball team is set to play at the Terrapin Invitational from Friday, Feb. 27 through Sunday, March 1.

The Orange will start the weekend off against Fairfield at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 followed by a 3 p.m. match up against Maryland. On Saturday, Feb. 28 the team will compete against UMBC at 12:30 p.m., and round out the weekend by taking on Providence at 10 a.m. on March 1.

ORANGE UPDATE:Â
Syracuse went 3-1 at the Liberty Softball Classic with two wins against Toledo and splitting a series with Liberty. Madison Knight recorded her third and fourth home run of the season, one in each game against Toledo. Taylor Davison recorded her first home run of the season, sending the ball over the fence in the first game against Toledo. Kiami Tulua stepped up to the plate against Liberty to hit a two-run home run at the top of the seventh inning, marking her second home run of the sophomore's season.

Kendall Gaunt and Vanessa Flores each recorded two hits against the Rockets, and the team drew seven walks in the first game against the Flames, with Flores leading with four. In the circle, Julianna Verni pitched 6.2 innings on the first day and recorded 4 strikeouts. She then stepped in to relieve Knight against Toledo on day two.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
'Cuse's first game in Maryland will be only the second meeting with Fairfield. The last time the two teams faced off was in 2008 when Syracuse took home a 6-3 win. Fairfield finished the 2025 season with a 26-26 record, in second place in the MAAC. The Stags lost in the MAAC Championship to Siena, ultimately ending their season. The Stags enter this weekend's tournament with a 3-5 record.

Syracuse and Maryland will meet for the eighth time, with their last matchup in 2024 when SU defeated the Terrapins giving the Orange a 4-3 lead in the teams' overall matchup history. The Terrapins come into the season with seven transfers after finishing the 2025 season with an 18-31 record. They are headed into this weekend with a 6-9 record after recently attending the Liberty Softball Classic.

The Orange will face off against UMBC for the first time on Saturday afternoon. The Retrievers finished second in the American East Conference last season with a 20-29 record. UMBC welcomes a new coach, Angie Nicholson, who comes from Norfolk State. The team heads to Maryland with a 1-3 season record and a three-game losing streak from the Wofford Invitational over Valentine's Day weekend.

This Sunday will mark the 29th meeting between Syracuse and Providence. Their last match up was a double header that resulted in two wins for the Orange giving 'Cuse a 20-8 record historically over the Friars. Providence finished the 2025 season in sixth place in their conference with a 25-31 overall record. The Friars ended their season in the Big East Semifinals after losses to St. John's and Creighton. The team has a record of 2-7 to start the 2026 campaign, recently coming off a win against Akron and losses to NC State and Illinois at The Raleigh Times last weekend.

UP NEXT:
Following the Terrapin Invitational, the Orange will head to Catonsville, Maryland for the UMBC Tournament hosted by UMBC. The tournament is set to run from Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8 at The Diamond at UMBC. Syracuse will face UAlbany, UMBC and Morgan State in its final regular season tournament of the year.
