Pittsburgh Defeats SU Volleyball, 3-0

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Syracuse University women’s volleyball team was defeated by Pittsburgh, 3-0, at Fitzgerald Field House on Friday night. SU’s record now stands at 14-10 overall and 3-6 in the BIG EAST, while the Panthers extended their record to 8-14 and 5-4 in BIG EAST play.
Junior Abby Van Mater (West Chester, PA/Unionville) led the SU offense with seven kills on 18 attempts with one error for a .333 attack percentage. Van Mater also recorded a team-high four total blocks. Senior co-captain Carol Munger (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) and freshman Rachel Crooks (Green Springs, OH/Clyde) each contributed six kills.
Sophomore Christen Casey (Long Beach, IN/Marquette) tallied a team-high 10 digs. Freshman Morgan Jones (Malad, ID/Malad), Crooks and senior co-captain Noreen Carroll (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) recorded eight digs each.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 4 when it faces West Virginia at 2 p.m.
