
Park Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year

STORRS, Conn. - Syracuse men's soccer player Jarett Park (Tully, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) has been named the BIG EAST Rookie of the Year by the league's coaches. Park is the fifth SU player to be honored in the history of the award, and the first since Jeff Knittel in 1995.
Park led the nation in assists with 14 helpers in 15 games. He also ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring with 24 points (five goals, 14 assists). he set an SU rookie record for assists and also was third on the Syracuse rookie points ledger. The freshman forward ranks second on the Orangemen's single-season assist ledger regardless of year. Park was also named third-team All-BIG EAST.
Joining Park on the All-BIG EAST squads are sophomore forward Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown), senior midfielder John Andrade (East Providence, R.I./East Providence) and junior midfielder Guido Cristofori (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).
Johnson was a first-team all-conference selection. He led the Orangemen and the BIG EAST in scoring with 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points, the best single-season total for an Orangeman since Paul Young tallied 35 points in 1991. It is Johnson's second all-conference selection. He was named to the All-Rookie team in 2000.
Andrade, SU's co-captain, was named second-team All-BIG EAST for the second consecutive season. Andrade started all 16 of SU's games and was second on the team with a career-high eight assists. Andrade also had a goal and 10 points.
Cristofori, a third-team selection, has been on an all-conference team in each of his three seasons. he was an All-Rookie performer his freshman year at West Virginia and was a second-team pick in 2000 in his first season with teh orange. Cristofori was sixth on the team in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points.
Syracuse finished the 2001 season with a 7-8-1 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in the BIG EAST.
