Michalski garnered All-League, All-State and All-American honors her sophomore and junior years in the indoor 20 lb. weight throw and hammer. She has a personal best of 58'2 3/4" in the weight throw and a 183'5"in the hammer. In 2001 she finished second in the hammer at Junior Nationals with a throw of 181'1" and was the indoor High School National Champion in the 20 lb. weight throw.
She was also a member of the 2001 Junior National Team that competed in England, Scotland and Argentina. Michalski placed fifth in the hammer throw at the Pan-American Junior Championship in October.
"Kristen has some of the best hammer and weight throw marks ever in high school competition," Syarcuse University throws coach Allen Bradd said. "She could very well break the high school national record of 60'10" in the weight throw this year.
"She is going to be a great addition to our already very young and talented women's throwing program. I am very excited she has chosen SU, to say the least," Bradd said.
