
SU's Winning Streak Stopped At Nine

SYRACUSE, NY -- Senior forward Preston Shumpert scored a game-high 29 points but it was not enough as ninth-ranked Syracuse lost to North Carolina State, 82-68, on Saturday night in the Carrier Dome in front of 20, 150.
The Wolfpack opened the game with a 12-3 run and stayed ahead for the remainder of the half. The Orange entered intermission behind by two, 35-33, after a three-pointer by Shumpert ended a 11-2 rally by Syracuse.
Syracuse came within two points of North Carolina State, 48-46, with 13:02 left in the game, but the Wolfpack responded with nine unanswered points to increase their lead to 11, 57-46. The Orange continued to battle back, but the Wolfpack's 60 percent shooting (17-of-28) in the second half kept them ahead for the 82-68 win.
The Orangemen shot 42.1 percent for the game, compared to the Wolfpack's 28-of-52 (53.8 percent) shooting. Shumpert has scored at least 25 points for the third consecutive game, and junior DeShaun Williams joined Shumpert in double figures with 20 points. Junior Jeremy McNeil pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds and chipped in three blocks.
Anthony Grundy led the Wolfpack with 26 points and Josh Powell followed with 14.
