
Yellow Jackets Sting Syracuse With 96-80 Loss

ATLANTA, GA - Five Orangemen scored in double figures, including a double-double by junior Kueth Duany, but Syracuse lost to Georgia Tech, 96-80, on Sunday evening at Philips Arena. Syracuse's record now stands at 9-2, while Georgia Tech increased its record to 4-5.
Duany posted a team-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, while junior DeShaun Williams recorded 16 points. James Thues scored a career-high 13 points and played a personal-best 38 minutes, and freshman Josh Pace tied a career high with 12 points. Senior forward Preston Shumpert chipped in 13 points.
Georgia Tech scored 21 points off 23 turnovers by the Orange. The Yellow Jackets shot 49 percent from the field, compared to SU's 31-of-70 shooting (44 percent).
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 12-2 lead, including two three-pointers by Clarence Moore who finished the game with a team-high 20 points. Shumpert scored four quick points to ignite the Orange on a 10-2 run to come within two points of the lead, 14-12.
With SU trailing by four, 21-17, with 10:44 left in the first half, the Yellow Jackets scored 13 unanswered points to take a 17-point lead, 34-17, and hold on to a 38-25 advantage at intermission.
Syracuse came within six points of Georgia Tech in the second half, 55-49, after three-pointers by Thues and Williams with 13:17 left in the game. However, the Yellow Jackets rattled off 10 unanswered points at the 12:51 mark to keep a double-digit lead, 67-51. Georgia Tech extended its lead to as much as 24, 88-64, with 4:21 left in the game.
Syracuse returns home to face South Florida on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
