
Women's Swimming and Diving Team Defeats Massachusetts, 192-140

Sophomores Megan Daney (Newtown, Pa.), Annie Tudryn (Springfield, Mass.) and Elyse McDonough (Delmar, N.Y.) each won two individual events Saturday to help the Syracuse University women's swimming and diving team to a 192-140 victory against Massachusetts at Ted Webster Pool.
The Massachusetts men edged the Orangemen, 140-137.
Daney won the 100 and 200 backstroke events for SU. She swam the 100 back in a time of 59.98 and the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:07.02.
Tudryn was her usual self in the breaststroke events. She captured first place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.34. In the 200 breaststroke, her first-place time was 2:23.26.
McDonough dominated the women's butterfly stroke. She finished first in the 100 butterfly (58.33) and the 200 butterfly (2:05.35). Her counterpart on the men's team, senior Djordje Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) was the top finisher in the men's 100 and 200 butterfly. He swam the 100 fly in a time of 51.59 and the 200 fly in a matter of 1:53.02.
The Orangewomen improved their dual-meet record this season to 3-2, while the Orangemen dropped to 2-3. Both teams will take a short hiatus from competition until January 2-12, when the squad travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico for its annual winter training trip. In Puerto Rico, SU will hold an exhibition meet against Yale. The team returns to official competitive action on January 19 at home against West Virginia.
