All SU mens lacrosse games will be broadcast on Syracuse radio station WFBL 1050 AM. Carter Blackburn, a recent SU graduate, will handle the play-by-play action, while SU equipment manager Kyle Fetterly will serve as the color analyst for all broadcasts on the Syracuse University Radio Network. Blackburn served as the analyst last season. Fetterly will make his broadcasting debut this season. WAER will continue its long-standing tradition of broadcasting the games.
The SU broadcasts will include a 15-minute pre-game show and post-game report each game. SU lacrosse broadcasts will be produced and disseminated by Learfield Communications, the multi-media rights holder of Syracuse Athletics.
"We look forward to having WFBL serve as our flagship station for SU mens lacrosse," said Associate Athletics Director Michael Veley. "Since 1996, weve had a great working relationship with WFBLs sister station, WSEN/Oldies 92, as a sponsor of SU mens lacrosse. That partnership will be strengthened this year through cross-promotion of both of Buckleys Communications AM and FM stations."
Last season the SU lacrosse games were broadcast by WNSS 1260 AM, owned by Citadel Communications, the Universitys radio network flagship partner. When Citadel switched the station format from all-news to all-comedy, the University and Citadel mutually agreed to re-structure their contract to have mens lacrosse broadcast on another station.
"The decision to move the games from Citadel Communications to WFBL radio allowed both SU and Citadel to accomplish their respective goals," Veley said. "The radio station can dedicate its efforts to marketing its new format exclusively, without sports broadcasts. In addition, SU Athletics has found a broadcast partner for the sport that it has had a solid relationship with. Most importantly, both parties are able to serve their respective target audiences."
