Tudryn Sets a School Record in the 100 Breaststroke in Friday's Preliminaries at the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championship

UNIONDALE, NY -- Freshman Annie Tudryn (Springfield, MA) broke her second school record of the season, this time in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke on day two of the 2001 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship. Tudryn finished second overall with a time of 1:04.28. Notre Dame's Allison Lloyd was first in a time of 1:03.47.

Tudryn broke Melanie Bryon's 1999 time of 1:04.80 in the 100 breaststroke.

Fellow freshman Kalei Mahi (Salinas, CA) will battle Tudryn and Lloyd in the finals of the 100 breastroke Friday evening. Mahi was third in the preliminaries with a time of 1:04.34.

Senior Dustin Riley (Carson City, NV) will be the man to beat tonight in the 400-yard individual medley. He won the preliminary round in a time of 3:59.06.

Syracuse will have two swimmers competing in the finals of the men's 100 breaststroke. Senior Ilia Mikhailov (Alta, Sweden) hit an NCAA "B" qualifying time to finish second (56.22) in the preliminaries. Freshman Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany), who has been quite impressive so far in the championship meet, was seventh in the prelim with a time of 57.05.

Junior Kelly Bryon (Uxbridge, Ontario) qualified for the finals of the 400 individual medley. She was fourth with a time of 4:25.77.

Senior Josko Vucetic (Split, Croatia) will try to defend his conference crown in the 100 backstroke tonight. He was fourth in the preliminary race with a time of 50.22.

Junior Djordje Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) will be aiming for his second gold medal at this year's championship when he takes to the starting block for the finals of the 100 butterfly. Filipovic was second behind St. John's swimmer Jaak Savvi with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 48.58.

Finals and consolation finals begin at 6:30 p.m. The BIG EAST Championship runs until Saturday, February 17.
