TOUGH START FOR ORANGEWOMEN Syracuse opened its second season with a 1-4 mark at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn University ... Syracuse won its first-ever season-opener with a 7-3 decision versus Northern Illinois before losing its next four.
HOLOWICH EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS Sophomore Christina Holowich was selected to the all-tournament team at the Tiger Invitatonal ... Holowich hit .312 (5-for-16) from the leadoff spot in the Orangewomen's first five games ... She led off the game with a base hit in two outings, the 11th and 12th time in her career that she has done that ... She also accounted for a run scored and an RBI at the tournament.
VS. THE OPPONENTS AT AGGIE INVITATIONAL The Orangewomen will be facing Illinois State, Texas A&M and Iowa for the first time at the Aggie II Invitational ... It will be the fourth, fifth and sixth times that Syracuse has faced a first-time opponent already this season ... The Orangewomen are 16-16 in games versus new opponents, but have lost its three games to first-time foes so far this season (Auburn, Ohio State and Purdue).
CONFERENCE CALL Syracuse will face its first-ever Big 12 opponent when they take on the host Aggies on Saturday, March 3 ... The Orangewomen will be facing more familiar confereces versus Illinois State (Missouri Valley Conference) and Iowa (Big Ten Conference) ... SU is 3-1 all time versus the MVC, going 2-1 against Southern Illinois and 1-0 versus Northern Iowa ... SU is winless in six chances against the Big Ten, including three losses to Ohio State and Purdue in the season's first tournament at Auburn ... The Orangewomen have also taken on Minnesota and Wisconsin.
HAPPY TO TURN THE CALENDAR The Orangewomen couldn't be happier to see February fade from the calendar ... Syracuse has its worst winning percentage of any month in February, posting a 3-7 record (.300) ... SU was 9-11 (.450) during March last season, including winning four-of-five to end the month ... April was the Orangewomen's best month with a 12-8-1 record (.596).
