Hello Beth. Thanks for joining us today.
Nate Piccoli Asks: Beth, thanks for your four years of enthusiastic and hard nose basketball. Waht are your imediate and long term plans?
Thanks for watching us. I am preparing for what is to come. I am continuing to work hard to make a WNBA team. I am working hard with Helen Haarlander, our strength and conditioning coach to get ready for the WNBA pre-draft camp that is in Chicago in three weeks. As for long term plans, I have a great degree in sociology from Syracuse University. So, if basketball does not work out like I intend it to, I can fall back on my education. I may want to coach, but I really want to work with children.
Stormin' Norman Asks: Beth the national championship comes down to Connecticut and Notre Dame who do you think will win?
I would say Notre Dame because they have a more dominant force inside. I think with Shea and Svetlana gone, ND has the advantage in the post and the guards.
Orange Juice Asks: What do think is the future for women's basketball? Will it gain more momentum or will the detractors of the sport keep it down?
I think by rookies going into the NBA so early by leaving college it is affecting the level of play on the collegiate level and in the NBA. Whereas with women's basketball fans can watch women for four years in college and then in the WNBA. In the NBA with so many going pro early and not many making it, it is hurting the college game. The women's game offers stability. I think there is so much more support getting thrown into the womens game from college level to the WNBA with a lot more games televised and more commercials. It used to be that you would joke about "We Got Next", but now a lot of people follow the game and appreciate that women can play just as hard and with just as much heart.
Eric Solderholm Asks: Beth, talk about the niche that SU women's basketball has in the community and the type of support the team has received from the area.
I think there is a great fan base for SU. With parents bringing their kids to games so they can see what they can aspire to be. Even with the wins and the losses, the fans have stayed consistent with their support. As we have improved, more fans have come out to watch us. The community support has been great throughout my four years. We just have to continue to make the women's game as exciting as the men's games so fans set aside a weekend for us. The main thing I can look to is our summer basketball camps and all the emails we get from the kids who came to camp. We get a lot of supportive messages from the campers throughout the year. That means a lot to us.
Cindy Applewhite Asks: What do you predict for the future of the Orangewomen basketball program? How do you rate your experience playing for Marianna Freeman?
I think the upcoming team holds the future in their hands. As hard as they want to work is as good as they are going to be. Playing for Coach Freeman, we have had ups and downs, but I think we have built a firm foundation for what is to come.
The One Asks: What is your greatest memory of playing at SU?
My greatest memory is playing against my teammates and travelling. Basketball-wise would be when we beat Old Dominion in overtime in the first game of the season. Everything that we had worked for paid off with that game. We were finally accomplishing the goals that we had set for ourselves.
Orangewomen Fan Asks: How has playing in the Big East the last four years prepared you for the next level?
I have played against some of the top competion and I have had the opportunity to go against the names you see in the headlines. This has helped prepare me for what is yet to come when I get to the level of the WNBA.
Beth, Thanks for joining us today. Do you have any final comments?
I want to thank everyone for their support for the past four years, as well as my teammates, coaches and my family. I will continue to follow the Orangewomen.
