Tennis Orangewomen Defeat Cal Poly, 5-2

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA (March 16) - Syracuse University sophomore Shervin Saedinia (Woodland Hills, CA) won the No. 4 singles match and teamed with Masha Kabanova (Moscow, Russia) for a win at second doubles, leading the Orangewomen in their 5-2 win against Cal-Poly on Friday, March 16 at the Avila Bay Club. Saedinia beat Lindsay Irons-Kilmer, 6-2, 6-4 and she and Kabanova defeated Westrich and Christie Tjong, 8-3 at second doubles. Syracuse won four of six singles matches and earned the doubles point with two victories. Syracuse improves to 5-6 overall while Cal Poly is now 8-4.

Junior Katie Thompson (Wesley Chapel, FL) won the No. 5 singles match, defeating Erica Nelson, 6-2, 6-0, and teamed with freshman Zani Suttle (Roswell, GA) for the third doubles victory. Thompson and Suttle beat Danielle Hustedt and Jennifer Azevedo, 9-8.

Senior Michelle Neveklovska (West Vancouver, British Columbia) won the first singles match, 6-4, 6-1, against Danielle Brandlin, increasing her career win total to 140-101, while senior Zuzanna Borucka (Gdansk, Poland) beat Angie Bagheri, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, for her 123rd career victory.

Syracuse will host Alabama-Birmingham on Friday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m.
