Orange Crew Retains Ten Eyck Cup for Fifth Consecutive Year

Due to high winds on the Onondaga Lake course, the race was moved to the outlet, which connects the lake with the Seneca River. Because it is a smaller body of water, the format was changed from a 2,000-meter race to a best-of-three 1,000-meter layout.
The Orangemen's top eight won both of their 1,000-meter races. The boat was coxswained by junior Eric Miller (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) and paced by senior stroke Karl Sudar (Springfield, VA). Senior captains Matt Heumann (Burnt Hills, NY) and Josh Stratton (Hyde Park, NY) rowed in the fifth and second seats, respectively.
SU was also victorious in the junior varsity eight event, defeating Rutgers 2-0. The JV eight was directed by sophomore coxswain Peter Romano (East Amherst, NY). Senior Sean Ring (Hyde Park, NY) sat at the stroke seat while sophomore Matt Costigan (Wexford, PA) was the bow.
The Ten Eyck Trophy is named after Ned Hanlon Ten Eyck and awarded to the winner of the annual Syracuse-Rutgers race. Ten Eyck coached at both schools and was a national champion sculler for the Orange.
Syracuse returns to action April 21 to contest the Goes Cup at Annapolis, MD. Syracuse faces Navy and Cornell in the race.
