Orangewomen Swept in First Home Doubleheader

It was the second time this season that Syracuse has been the victim of a no-hitter. Texas A&M's Jessica Slataper also blanked the Orangewomen on March 4.
The Orangewomen are now 5-14 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST. Pittsburgh improves to 8-23 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Bessolo struck out two and walked two in seven innings of work. The victory ran her record to 2-9 on the season.
Sophomore Tara DiMaggio (Hopewell Junction, NY) was the loser for the Orangewomen. She allowed two runs on four hits in five innings. DiMaggio struck out two and walked two, but both free passes came with the bases loaded in fifth inning, accounting for the Panthers' two runs. She is now 2-5 on the season.
The first game of the twin bill went scoreless for 10 innings until the Panthers' Brittany Bell singled home the game's only run in the top half of the 11th. Beth Gill scored the run, reaching on a bunt single. She moved to second on a groundout and scored on Bell's single to right field.
Junior Heather Brown (Bloomfield, NM) suffered the loss for Syracuse despite a season-best 13 strikeouts. It is the highest strikeout total for an Orangewoman pitcher this season, and the second-highest single-game total in the program's two-year history. Brown allowed seven hits in 11 innings, dropping her record to 2-7.
Nikki Gasti was the winning pitcher for the Panthers. She gave up eight hits and struck out three in the complete-game victory. Gasti is now 4-9 on the season.
Syracuse stranded 11 runners on base, including the tying run on third when the game ended. Each team left the bases loaded during the game.
Sophomore Christina Holowich (Castro Valley, CA) led the offense with two hits. Freshman catcher Jaime Grillo (Brentwood, NY) smacked her team-best fourth double of the season, while sophomore Jackie Herrman (Warren, OH) extended her hitting streak to seven with an infield hit.
Syracuse continues its BIG EAST homestand on Sunday, April 8 with a doubleheader versus 11th-ranked Notre Dame at 12 p.m. The Irish are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Connecticut, improving their record to 30-3 overall and 6-0 in league play.
