
Three Orangemen Boats To Race In Petite Finals Of IRA Regatta

In Friday's repecharge, the Orange's junior varsity eight, coxswained by sophomore Peter Romano (East Amherst, NY), finished second and advances to Saturday's petite finals. With junior Andy Berster (Sarasota, FL) as the stroke Syracuse finished with a time of 6:00.2.
In the varsity four without coxswain repecharge, Syracuse placed third with a time of 6:55.0. With sophomore Bill Schmidt (San Bernadino, CA) powering the boat from the second seat the Orange race in Saturday's petite finals.
Syracuse's freshman four with coxswain also made Saturday's petite finals. Adlai Hurt (Ames, IA) was in the bow seat and Mitch Curtis (Sharon, MA) served as the stroke for the SU boat that placed third in its repecharge with a time of 7:14.9.
The Orangemen varsity eight advanced to the third level finals. With captains Josh Stratton (Hyde Park, NY) and Matt Heumann (Burnt Hills, NY), the Orangemen placed second to Georgetown in the fourth semifinal. The varsity eight crossed the finish line in 6:07.9, less than a second behind Georgetown.
After finishing fifth in its repecharge, Syracuse's varsity pair without coxswain will race in the third level finals. Andy Johnson (Oak Ridge, TN) and Adam Stivala (Colts Neck, NJ) finished in 8:08.7.
Syracuse's freshman eight and varsity four with coxswain each placed
fourth in their semifinals. Both boats will not race on Saturday. The
freshman eight crossed the finish line in 6:29.9 in the third semifinal,
while the varsity four with coxswain finished in 7:25.7 in the fourth
semifinal.
