Syracuse seniors Chris Cercy (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and Rob Mulligan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) were among the first 10 players selected in the 2001 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Cercy was chosen by the Rochester Rattlers with the fifth pick in the first round. Mulligan, one of three goalies selected, was the ninth overall pick by the Long Island Lizards in the second round.
Cercy led the nation in face-off winning percentage the last two seasons. He scored four goals in 2001 and had an assist in the NCAA quarterfinal game against Hofstra. He was a two-time All-American during his career at SU, including third-team status this season.
Mulligan, a two-time team captain, was ranked seventh in the nation in goals against average this season. He finished his career ranked fourth on the school's all-time saves chart with more than 600 career saves. He was twice named an All-American, garnering third-team laurels this year.
The inaugural Major League Lacrosse season begins this weekend and will last throughout the summer months.
