Northeastern's Sarah Broderick scored on a pass from Kelly Williams with 7:32 remaining in the first overtime session to help her team defeat Syracuse, 1-0, at Princeton's Class of 1952 Stadium Sunday afternoon. It was the Orangewomen's second loss of the season as they are now 2-2 on the year.
Northeastern outshot Syracuse, 3-2, in the first half and had four penalty corners to SU's one. The Orangewomen were more aggressive during the second 35 minutes, forcing seven corners and attempting six shots on goal, including three by senior forward Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown).
Junior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) finished with six saves for Syracuse, while the Huskies' Kathleen Madaus tallied five saves.
This was the first overtime game for the Orangewomen this season. Last year, they played a school-record eight contests that were decided in overtime.
Syracuse will be on the road again next weekend. The Orangewomen will play Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. as part of the annual Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge. They take on Michigan State on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 3 p.m. Both games are being played at Ohio State.
