The second-half scoring trend continued for the Syracuse field hockey team Sunday against West Chester. Finding themselves down, 2-0, at halftime to the visiting Golden Rams, the Orangewomen pieced together a five-goal scoring spurt during the second 35 minutes en route to a 5-2 victory at Coyne Field. Thirteen of the Orangewomen's 14 goals this season have been tallied in the second stanza.
Four different Orangewomen scored, and all five goals were assisted in the total team effort.
West Chester (4-3) capitalized on two errant Syracuse passes in the first half, turning them into scores. Stacey Tomes notched the first goal at the 12:44 mark by dribbling inside the circle and firing to the far post. SU junior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) was screened by one of her own defenders on the play and could not see the ball to make the save.
With 35 seconds remaining in the first half, Laura Bausch, fresh into the game from the West Chester bench, made the score 2-0 with a goal that was set up for her by Mariel Tomes.
SU junior midfielder Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown) made the score 2-1 with her direct-corner shot from the top of the circle at the 31:43 mark of the second half.
Freshman forward Brittany Carriero (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) netted her first collegiate goal nearly five minutes later by deflecting a Kristin Aronowicz shot into the goal. That tied the game at 2-2 with 27:57 remaining.
Senior forward Caylyn Dicruttalo (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) registered her first goal since the Temple game of 1999 when she converted a beautiful crossing pass from Carriero at the 24-minute mark.
The Orangewomen refused to let up on offense despite their 3-2 advantage. Red-shirt freshman forward Ann-Marie Guglieri (Carmel, NY/Carmel) tallied the final two goals of the game, her second and third goals of the season. She slapped in a pass from senior forward Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, PA/Downingtown) at 12:24 and tipped in another Kristin Aronowicz shot with 4:40 remaining in the game.
Syracuse (4-2, 1-0 BIG EAST) outshot West Chester 14-7 and forced 10 penalty corners. The Golden Rams lined up for four corners in the contest.
The Orangewomen will next be in action on Thursday, Sept. 27 at Colgate. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
