Grosman Lifts Field Hockey Team to 1-0 Victory at Boston College
9/30/2001 6:46:52 PM | Field Hockey
The Syracuse University field hockey team edged Boston College, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College in a battle of unbeaten BIG EAST teams. With the win, the Orangewomen improved to 6-2 overall, 2-0 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles fell to 4-5 overall, 1-1 in the conference.
Both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half behind some evenly matched field hockey. The Eagles used the second half to take control of the contest, outshooting Syracuse 5-3 and outcornering the Orangewomen 5-4 in the final 35 minutes. All Syracuse would need, however, was one shot taken with 33 seconds left on the clock. It was then that junior back Missy Grosman (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) connected on a rebound from a nicely-executed penalty corner play. It was Grosman's second goal of the week.
Syracuse will play again tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 1, at Fairfield, beginning at 2 p.m.
