PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Syracuse senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) has been named BIG EAST Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week. It is the first time in her career that James has won the award.
James led Syracuse to a pair of victories last week. The Orangewomen (9-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) defeated 25th-ranked Cincinnati, 70-68, on Jan. 8 and then toppled Providence, 81-52 on Jan. 12. James averaged 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for the week, including a season-high 21 points versus the Friars. James just missed a triple-double versus Providence with eight rebounds and a career-best eight assists.
Versus Cincinnati, James scored eight of her 15 points in the final 5:06 of the game. James went 2-for-2 from behind the three-point line, including one that tied the score at 64-64 with 1:39 remaining. She also made two foul shots to tie the score at 66-66 with 0:42 left.
James’ selection marks the first time since the 1987-88 season that SU has had two players earn BIG EAST Player of the Week honors in the same season. Julie McBride was also named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 26.
The Orangewomen travel to Miami on Wednesday, Jan. 16 to take on the Hurricanes. Miami is 9-6 overall and 2-3 in league play. SU's next home game is Saturday, Jan. 19 versus Georgetown at 2 p.m. in Manley Field House.
