Grimaldi and Jones Set Meet Records at Husky Invitational

Jones sped to a 7.92 finish in the 55-hurdles, besting the 7.98 mark set by Nikiya Reid of Northeastern in 2000. It was the third hurdles victory for Jones in three races this season. Fellow senior Kawanna Skinner (Durham, N.C./UNC-Charlotte) finished fifth with a time of 8.61 seconds in the hurdles.
Grimaldi cleared the high-jump bar at 5'10.75" (1.81m), provisionally qualifying her for nationals. Other field competitors that placed included freshman Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas/Port Isabel), who took third in the shot put with a throw of 46'4.25" (14.13m). Freshman Nicole Kendrick (Lancaster, Ohio/ Lancaster) placed fifth in the shot with a distance of 45'1.75" (13.76m) and seventh in the 20lb. weight throw with a mark of 48'11.75" (14.93m). Junior Aprelle Watkins (Virginia Beach, Va./ Salem) placed second in the long jump (18'7.00"/5.66m) and triple jump (39'6.5"/12.05m). Freshman Tatiana Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y./Clara Barton) took third in the triple jump with a leap of 38'7.75" (11.78m)
On the men's side, junior Richard Polidore (Chino, Calif./Chino) qualified for the BIG EAST and IC4A Championships in the 200-meter dash and long jump. Polidore won the 200 in 22.17 and finished third in the long jump, leaping 23'2.50" (7.07m). Freshman Chris Telesford (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) met BIG EAST and IC4A qualifying standards in the 500-meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 1:04.68. Sophomore John Bitok (Kitale, Kenya/Paul Boit) ran a BIG EAST qualifying time of 4:17.85 to take third in the mile.
Three Orangemen excelled in the shot put, led by junior Tim Adrian (Moorepark, Calif./ Moorpark). Adrian won the event with a season-best throw of 54'3.25" (16.54m), while juniors Steve Bedard (Windsor, Ont./St. Joseph's) and Tim Biever (Jonestown, Pa./North Lebanon) placed third and eighth, respectively. Bedard's throw of 53'3.75" (16.25m) and Biever's effort of 48'2.75" (14.70m) were season-highs as well.
Junior Joel Carusone (Slingerland, N.Y./Guilderland) carried on the SU success with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 15'6.00" (4.72m).
Syracuse will host the Syracuse Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 3. The field events will begin at 8 a.m.
