Two days after losing to Villanova in penalty strokes, the Syracuse field hockey team reversed its fortunes by defeating Pennsylvania, 2-1, in penalty strokes. The Orangewomen improved their season record to 8-6 with the win.
Junior midfielder Jackie Sheaffer (Richfield, Pa./Middleburg) gave SU a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 17:48 mark. It was her third goal of the season. Just more than six minutes later, the Quakers tied the score at 1-1.
Neither team was able to find the back of the cage during the two sudden-death overtime periods. Senior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) totalled 16 saves, including 10 in the first half. Penn goalkeeper Amanda Jacobs recorded 11 saves for the game.
Syracuse posted a 15-8 edge in penalty corners for the game.
