
Orangewomen Lose To No. 11 West Virginia, 4-0

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse women's soccer team lost 4-0 to 11th-ranked West Virginia in front of 537 on a Sunday afternoon at the Syracuse Soccer Stadium. Four different players scored for the Mountaineers, who extended their unbeaten streak to 14 games and improved to 13-1-1 on the season. Syracuse is now 2-9-2.
Laura Kane opened the scoring 5:05 into the game for WVU, burying a shot to the far post from 16 yards out and a 1-0 lead. Chrissie Abbott earned an assist on the play.
Christen Seaman increased the West Virginia lead to 2-0 when she one-timed a header from Lisa Stoia in the box at 26:26. Shawna Toth scored the third West Virginia goal two minutes before intermission, when she beat SU keeper Shannon Myers (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield HS) one-on-one in the box.
Abbott closed out the game's scoring at 60:27 with her 16th goal of the season, putting home her own rebound off a direct kick.
The Mountaineers outshot SU 20-2 in the game, including 11-0 in the second half. WVU defender Jennifer Lewis stopped SU's only shot on goal in the game, a header from junior Erica Mastrogiacomo (Weymouth, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) on a Syracuse corner kick.
Laura Finley earned the shutout for the Mountaineers, who have not given up a goal in four games. SU freshman keeper Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville HS) made six saves in the second half to lead the Orangewomen.
Syracuse starts a four-game road trip with a Wednesday night tilt against Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.
