The Syracuse field hockey team improved its record to 10-6 on the season following a 2-0 victory against Dartmouth at Coyne Field Sunday. Senior midfielder Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) and sophomore forward Ann-Marie Guglieri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) scored goals for the Orangewomen.
The score was tied 0-0 at the end of the first half. Dartmouth, fresh off an upset win over Virginia on Friday, outshot Syracuse 7-2 during the first 35 minutes.
At 48:25 of the second period, Syracuse was awarded a penalty stroke. Aronowicz was selected to take the shot. Just like Friday night against Providence, Aronowicz safely deposited the ball into the cage. It was her team-leading sixth goal of the season and 39th of her career. She moved into a tie for fourth with Kelly Hambleton (1996-99) on the school's all-time scoring list. She has 89 points for her career and needs six more to become SU's all-time leading scorer. The team has four regular-season games remaining.
Guglieri tallied her second goal of the season at the 63:36 mark to give SU a 2-0 lead. Senior midfielder Michelle Marks (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) fired a long, free hit at the cage and Guglieri was there to tip in the pass. It was Guglieri's eighth career goal and the third assist for Marks this season.
Senior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) finished with seven saves, while Dartmouth's Hannah Murnen recorded two saves. For Latsko, it marked her seventh shutout of the season.
Dartmouth is now 8-4 on the year.
Syracuse plays its final regular-season home game on Wednesday, Oct. 23, against Colgate, beginning at 7 p.m.
