
Men's Soccer Loses To No. 14 Boston College, 3-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Despite putting seven shots on goal in the second half, the Syracuse men's soccer team lost to 14th-ranked Boston College, 3-1, in front of 315 fans at the SU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The Orangemen are now 7-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the BI G EAST, while the Eagles improved to 9-3-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the league. The loss broke a four-game unbeaten streak for SU.
The Orangemen held a 4-1 corner kick advantage and a 10-6 edge in shots after intermission, but could not find the back of the net. BC keeper Casey Singer was forced to make seven saves in the second half, with three coming from shots by Guido Cristofori (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport HS).
BC's John Krause put the Eagles up, 1-0, at the 8:21 mark, driving home the rebound a shot by Bobby Thompson that was saved by SU goalkeeper Alim Karim (Scarborough, Ontario/West Hill Collegiate).
Syracuse junior Kirk Johnson (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown HS) tied the game less than eight minutes later, beating BC keeper Casey Singer to the far post from 12 yards out. Cristofori and Jorge Rodriguez (Bogota, Colombia/Institute Technico) earned assists on the play.
The Eagles took the lead for good at 41:18, as Casey Schmidt took a pass from Neil Krause and buried a shot from the right side for the 2-1 lead. An unmarked Adam Pfeifer tapped in an insurance goal on a pass from Bobby Thompson at 75:00 for the 3-1 final score.
Johnson's goal pushed his career point total to 67, moving him past Ken Vieira for eighth on the all-time list at SU.
Karim finished with four saves for Syracuse. Singer made a game-high nine saves.
Syracuse will play its final three regular season games on the road, beginning at Virginia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. The Orangemen travel to Cornell for a 7 p.m. tilt on Wednesday, Oct. 30 before ending the regular season at ninth ranked Connecticut on Nov. 3.
