
Late Goal Lifts Hokies Past Orangemen

BLACKSBURG, Va. - A goal by Virginia Tech's Bobby O'Brien with just 1:48 left in the game propelled the Hokies to a 1-0 win versus the Syracuse men's soccer team on Sunday, October 27. The loss was the Orangemen's second in a row. SU is now 7-7-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the BIG EAST. The Hokies are 10-5-1 and 5-3-0 in league play.
O'Brien's goal was unassisted in the 89th minute. The loss ended SU's streak of three straight games with at least one goal. The Orangemen are currently in ninth place in the BIG EAST with one conference game remaining. Syracuse must defeat Connecticut in the regular-season finale on November 3 to have any chance of making the BIG EAST Tournament.
Syracuse outshot the Hokies, 15-12, including putting six shots on goal. SU also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Alim Karim (Scarborough, Ontario) made three saves, while Virginia Tech keeper Chase Harrison stopped six shots.
The Orangemen step out of conference for a New York Region matchup at Cornell on Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m. SU then travels to UConn to take on the Huskies.
