Senior midfielder Kristin Aronowicz (Exton, Pa./Downingtown) scored two goals as the Syracuse field hockey team posted a 2-0 victory against Cornell at Schoellkopf Field. It marked the 17th consecutive victory for the Orangewomen versus the Big Red. SU owns a 19-1-1 advantage in the all-time series against Cornell.
Aronowicz tallied her third and fourth goals of the season on penalty corners. Each time, sophomore stopper Ann-Marie Guglieri (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) earned credit for the assist. Aronowicz's first goal, which was scored just 5:09 into the contest, was set up by Guglieri and junior midfielder Jackie Sheaffer (Richfield, Pa./Middleburg). SU held on to a 1-0 halftime lead.
Guglieri connected with Aronowicz for SU's second goal at the 49:25 mark. It was Aronowicz's 37th career goal. The offensive outburst moved her into a tie for fifth place on the school's all-time scoring list with Shelley Magee (1990-93). Aronowicz now owns 85 career points and needs 10 more to become the Orangewomen's all-time leading scorer.
Senior goalkeeper Audrey Latsko (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) earned her sixth shutout of the season with six saves against the Big Red. She has 408 saves and 18.5 shutouts for her career.
Syracuse is 7-5 on the season. The Orangewomen travel to BIG EAST rival Villanova for a 7 p.m. contest on Friday, Oct. 11. Although Syracuse owns a 13-2 advantage in the all-time series with the Wildcats, each of the last five meetings has been decided by one goal. Four of those five meetings have been decided in overtime.
