Romeo, Scanlon and Thomas Honored for Academic Success

To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on his team with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. The District I team is compiled from NCAA Division I football teams from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
Romeo, a three-year starter at center, is majoring in mechanical engineering. He has started every game (34) during his SU career and is a candidate for the 2002 Rimington Trophy, which is given to the nation's top center. Scanlon, a starter at outside linebacker, is majoring in health and exercise science. He has forced turnovers in two of the past three games. Scanlon is sixth on the team in tackles with 50, including nine for a loss of 37 yards. Thomas, who is a two-year starter at defensive end, is a psychology major. Thomas has 24 tackles, including five tackles for a loss, and also has two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this year.
Syracuse will play at Boston College on Saturday, November 16 at 12:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN Regional. The Orangemen conclude the regular season on Saturday, November 30 in the Carrier Dome against No. 1 Miami.
Fans purchasing tickets to SU's game against Miami will receive an equal number of free basketball tickets to any SU men’s basketball games during December, with the exception of the Orangemen's game against Georgia Tech. The free basketball ticket is valued at $13 for adult tickets and $4 for everyone ages 18 and younger. The offer is valid while supplies last. Fans buying the football/basketball ticket package can select as many different December basketball games as they would like, based on the number of football tickets purchased.
