
Six Former Orangemen Return To Carrier Dome For Basketball Exhibition

Upstate New York features six former Syracuse players. Guard Lazarus Sims was recently selected to the Harlem Globetrotters. He ranks sixth on SU's career assists list with 432 in 114 career games. Lawrence Moten is the Orangemen's all-time leading scorer with 2,334 points in his four-year career (19.3 per game). Allen Griffin, a 2001 graduate, finished his four-year career ranked ninth on SU's career assists ledger with 409. Forward Ryan Blackwell averaged 9.9 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game at Syracuse in three years as an Orangeman. Malik Campbell, a two-sport athlete at Syracuse, played basketball his first two seasons before switching to football. Center Billy Celuck graduated from Syracuse in May. A crowd favorite, Celuck averaged 3.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game in his career.
The current Orangemen lost their season-opener to Memphis, 70-63, in the first game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. Freshman Carmelo Anthony had the best debut of any Syracuse rookie in the program's history, scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the loss. Classmate Gerry McNamara was the squad's second-highest scorer in the game, hitting four three-point baskets on his way to 14 points.
The Orangemen play their regular season home opener on Sunday, Nov. 24, when they host Valparaiso for a 1:00 pm game.
