McGrorey And O'Brien Take First At Syracuse Smash

SYRACUSE, NY - Syracuse sophomores Kelly McGrorey (West Chester, PA/Henderson) and Shawna O’Brien (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) took first place in the Orangewomen’s varsity pair’s race on Saturday morning on Onondaga Lake.
McGrorey and O’Brien finished ahead of 19 boats in the varsity flight with a time of 12:15.9. Seniors Seana Miller (West Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) and Bonnie Chapman (Gainesville, FL/Eastside) were the next Syracuse pair to cross the finish line in sixth place with a time of 13:04.0. Cornell had three pairs finish in the top five of the varsity flight.
Gretchen Gehrke and Susie Dain-Owens of Dartmouth took first place in the junior varsity flight with a time of 13:19.9. Sophomores Beth Landgraf (Pitman, NJ/American University) and Ali Forsyth (Cochrane, Alberta/University of Calgary) were the first Syracuse pair to finish in fifth place with a time of 13:57.1. Nineteen boats competed in the second flight of pairs.
The Syracuse women’s rowing team finishes its fall season next weekend on November 9 when it competes in the Belly of the Carnegie in Princeton, NJ.
