
Williams' Scoring Down The Stretch Helps Orange Beat Irish, 68-65

NOTRE DAME, IN - Junior DeShaun Williams scored 18 points, including eight of Syracuse's final 12 points, as the Orangemen posted a 68-65 victory against Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon at Joyce Center.
Syracuse (19-7, 8-4) moved into sole possession of second place in the BIG EAST West Division, while Notre Dame (17-8, 7-5) stands in a third-place tie with Rutgers.
After trailing by as much as seven in the second half, Williams hit a three-pointer to give SU the lead for good, 62-60, with 4:08 left in the game. Torrian Jones scored on a Notre Dame fast break to bring the Fighting Irish within within one, 64-63 with 1:40 left. Williams hit one-of-two free throws and sophomore Jeremy McNeil tipped in a Kueth Duany miss to seal the win.
Williams was one of four Orangemen in double figures. Duany recorded 12 points, and senior Preston Shumpert and sophomore James Thues each chipped in 10 points. Shumpert also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and Thues dished out four assists. Freshman Hakim Warrick scored all of his eight points in 11 minutes of play in the first half.
With his 4-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, Williams moved past Matt Roe into fifth place in career three-pointers with 161 treys.
Syracuse returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 21 when it travels to Seton Hall. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
