
Orangewomen Lose at #21/18 Boston College, 73-63

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior forward Jazmine Wright (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) scored 18 points to lead the Syracuse women's basketball team in its 73-63 loss at #21/18 Boston College at the Conte Forum on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Syracuse is now 14-11 overall and 7-7 in the BIG EAST, while the Eagles are 20-5 and 11-3 in the league.
Two other players scored in double figures for the Orangewomen. Sophomore Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./LaSalle) hit for 16 points on 5-for-9 shooting and senior guard Jaime James (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) tallied 11 second-half points. James' effort moved her into ninth place on the Syracuse all-time scoring list. She now has 1,118 points, passing Mary Schiavetta and Vera Jones.
The Orangewomen fell behind early, 25-19. Back-to-back three-pointers by Boston College's Amber Jacobs stretched the lead to 31-19, and the Eagles went into halftime with a 35-25 advantage. The trio of Perry, Wright and sophomore center Chineze Nwagbo (Lanham-Seabrook, Md./Columbia) combined for 23 of SU's 25 points.
The Eagles put the game away in the second half, going on a 14-2 run in the opening minutes. Boston College led by as many as 23 points, 63-40 with 7:02 remaining, but a late 23-10 run by the Orangewomen cut the final margin to 10.
The Orangewomen outrebounded the Eagles, 32-29. SU is now 11-2 when holding the advantage on the glass. Boston College shot 50 percent for the game (26-for-52) and racked up 25 assists on its 25 field goals.
Syracuse has now lost four consecutive games. It is the Orangewomen's first four-game losing streak since the 1999-2000 season.
The game was Syracuse's last BIG EAST road contest of the season. The Orangewomen finish their regular-season schedule at Manley Field House versus West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. and St. John's on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
