
Villanova Holds Off Orangemen, 67-61

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Despite a second half-rally by the Orangemen, Villanova held on to defeat Syracuse, 67-61, at First Union Center on Thursday night.
Villanova (15-11, 6-9 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 21-10 advantage and led by as much as 15 in the first half.
SU cut the lead to one, 46-45, after a basket by senior Preston Shumpert with 7:48 left in the game, and freshman Josh Pace then tied the score at 53-53 with 4:17 remaining.
Derrick Snowden started an 11-1 Wildcats run with a three-pointer to take a 67-56 advantage and seal the win.
Villanova led 33-21 at the half after shooting 13-of-30 from the field, while Syracuse was 8-of-31.
Junior DeShaun Williams and Shumpert led the Orangemen with 16 points each. Junior Kueth Duany joined the duo in double figures with 10 tallies.
Brooks Sales recorded a double-double for the Wildcats with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Syracuse (20-9, 9-6) returns to action on Sunday, March 3 when the Orangemen play their final home game of the season against Boston College. Tipoff is at noon in the Carrier Dome.
