
Orangewomen Look For 50th Victory In Program's History

The Syracuse women’s lacrosse team looks to achieve its 50th victory in the program’s five-year history when it takes on No. 11 Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m. in South Bend, Ind. The seventh-ranked Orangewomen (6-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) look to extend their four-game winning streak against the Fighting Irish (6-1, 2-0 BIG EAST).
The Syracuse and Notre Dame programs meet for the fifth time with SU leading 4-0 in the series. With a 13-10 win against the Fighting Irish in their last 2001 home game, the Orangewomen secured second place in the inaugural season of The BIG EAST Conference.
SU moved up to seventh this week in the IWLCA Poll. The Orangewomen have held the No. 8 spot for the past two weeks. On March 5, Syracuse was ranked seventh for the first-time ever. With its No. 11 ranking, Notre Dame achieved the highest ranking in its program’s history.
Junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) received BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors after setting two school records in the 19-11 win against Connecticut on Saturday, March 30. She scored three goals and dished out seven assists, setting a record for most points in a single game with 10. With her seven assists, Wayne moved into the top spot at SU for most assists in a season with 21. She also tied her own school record for most assists in a game with seven.
Wayne leads the team and the conference with 15 goals and 21 assists. She is among the nation’s leaders in single-game and season performances for points and assists.
Senior tri-captain Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) recorded a career high with six points against the Huskies. She moved into third place on the career goals list at SU with 92. Soults also moved into third on the career points list with 113. Soults leads the team with 24 goals.
Freshman Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) has scored a goal in each of the past three games. She has four total points (three goals, one assist) on the season.
